Collect without the awkwardness: payment reminder

Asking for payment feels awkward mostly when you do it late and in a rush, because then it sounds like a complaint. The same message, sent before the payment day, sounds like a reminder. Here is one ready to copy. It is in Spanish, for Spanish-speaking customers.

1. Write one message, calmly

Write it once, unhurried, and use it for everyone. Each time you only change the name, the item, the amount and the date.

Hola, [nombre]. Te recuerdo que tu pago de [concepto] por [monto] vence el [fecha]. Puedes pagar aquí: [enlace de pago]. Si ya lo hiciste, ignora este mensaje y gracias. Cualquier duda, aquí estoy.

2. Save it so you never start from scratch

Keep it in your phone's notes or in the saved-messages feature of your messaging app, if it has one. That way collecting takes seconds and does not turn into an awkward conversation every time.

3. Send a payment link

A payment link is a button where your customer pays from their phone, without you having to hand over your bank account. Check which payment service you already use or which one your bank offers and ask it to generate one.

4. Send it before, not after

Before the due date, the message is a reminder. After it, the same text can sound like a complaint. If the date has already passed, switch to a softer tone.

Hola, [nombre]. Vi que tu pago de [concepto] sigue pendiente. ¿Todo bien? Aquí te dejo el enlace por si te sirve: [enlace de pago].

5. Check before sending

Confirm the name, amount and date are correct and that the link opens. A wrong detail in a payment request is more embarrassing than the reminder itself.

Remind, do not chase

Collecting is not chasing payments, it is reminding on time. One saved message and a notice before the due date take the awkwardness away.
