In Mexico, SEO is quoted anywhere from $1,500 to more than $80,000 MXN a month, and that wide spread is exactly what makes proposals impossible to compare. Two agencies can charge the same and deliver things that look nothing alike. Here are the real 2026 ranges, what each tier includes and how to read a quote without being left with doubts.
The real ranges in 2026
| Who does it | Monthly cost | Who it works for |
|---|---|---|
| Freelancer or consultant | $5,000 to $15,000 MXN | Local business, one city, small site |
| Boutique agency | $8,000 to $30,000 MXN | Small or mid-sized business with several service lines |
| Agency with a team | $10,000 to $50,000 MXN | Mid-sized company or ecommerce |
| Highly competitive sector | $35,000 MXN and up | Real estate, health, legal, insurance |
| One-off audit | $5,000 to $20,000 MXN once | Diagnosis before you decide |
A local business serving one city doesn't need a national company's package. If you sell services in Guadalajara, the heavy lifting is your business profile, a few well-built pages and steady reviews, not fifty articles a month. If you want a diagnosis before hiring, check out how much a website audit costs.
What you're really paying for
SEO isn't a license or an installation: it's people's time. When you see $12,000 MXN a month, that number breaks down roughly like this:
- Content: two to four new pages or articles, written for specific searches.
- Technical work: speed, structure, indexing, errors that keep Google from reading the site.
- Research: what your customer is actually searching for, with data, not assumptions.
- Links and mentions: getting other real sites to talk about you.
- Measurement: reviewing rankings, traffic and which pages bring in leads.
If a quote doesn't put numbers on those five points, you can't compare it with another. Ask for figures: how many pieces, how many technical hours, who implements the changes.
How long it takes to deliver results
Google itself says SEO takes four to six months to show noticeable movement, and six to twelve for meaningful results. That's with consistent work. A newly launched site takes longer than one with years of history, and a search with ten strong competitors takes longer than a niche one.
That's why a three-month contract is almost never enough to judge whether it worked. The reasonable approach is to commit to six and check in at three using interim indicators: pages indexed, searches where you already appear even if on page two, and clicks from Google.
Signs you're about to be overcharged or underserved
- They promise first place or a specific ranking. Nobody controls Google's order.
- They bill by "number of keywords" without saying which ones or how much demand they have.
- The monthly report is an automated chart with no explanation of what was done or what's next.
- They ask for a twelve-month contract with no exit clause.
- The site and tracking accounts end up in the agency's name and not the business's.
- A price far below the market: at $1,500 a month there isn't even an hour of serious work.
When it makes sense and when it doesn't
SEO makes sense when people already search for what you sell and you don't show up. If nobody searches for your category, no investment in ranking will create demand: paid advertising does more to generate interest in that case. First check whether there are real searches for your service in your city, and only then set the budget.
